My love for chemistry is evolved around the formulation of cosmetics. Each month I will include instructions and tips on how to formulate similar batches of your favorite brand -products, along with features and benefits of key ingredients in your compound.

During the harsh winter times, foot and lip scrubs are easy remedies to get your pout and twinkle toes back in shape. Vigorously apply your scrub with circular motions. Rinse off with water, and apply a thick moisturizer, or body butter.

Below are ingredients for creating your own foot and lip scrub, along with some familiar brands.

Comments: 1. Disperse Carbopol Ultrez 21 Polymer by sprinkling on the surface of warm (~40°C) deionized water, without mixing. After polymer has wetted, mix slowly for 10 minutes. 2. Add remaining Part A ingredients in order to the batch using slow agitation. Mix until uniform. 3. In a separate vessel, pre-mix Part B ingredients and add to Part A. Mix slowly until homogenous. 4. Add ingredients one at a time in Part C to Parts A/B in order, mixing thoroughly between. Mix until uniform.

Procedure: Mix the ingredients in phase A with slow agitation. Add the remaining ingredients in phase B one at a time to phase A and mix well.
